Welcome to Archway Kennels, the home of quality, performance-bred Labrador Retrievers. Owned by Ken and Stacy Archer, Archway Kennels produces one to three litters of puppies per year. Each litter is selectively bred to improve the performance and conformation of our own breeding stock from one generation to the next. The over all quality of our dogs is thus enhanced every year as we add the best individuals from the latest generation and find good homes for the lower end of the older generation.
As active members of the Alamo Retriever Club, we share a common love for hunting Labs and the training required to participate in AKC and HRC hunt tests and AKC field trials. We also like our Labs to be good looking representatives of the breed with personalities suitable for life in the home.
There was a time in the mid-Seventies when field and show Labs could compete in either venue. Times change and the ability to produce a dual champion is almost impossible now. But that doesn't stop us from trying to recreate those great dogs of the Seventies, dogs with outstanding performance and ideal working conformation in one package.
We have all three colors - black, yellow and chocolate - but we don't breed for a particular color because field performance has no color. While our dogs all have an American field-bred base, we still continue to look outside the box to show-bred, English-bred or to dogs bred for other performance events. We are always looking for a quality outcross that will improve our bloodline and help us produce the best all-around dog available. But in the end, field performance is our first love and top priority.
